60-Miles, 3-Days, One Incredible Cause (Kelli's Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Journey)
I would like to ask you to take a walk with me. I can promise you that it will be a journey like no other, involving commitment, challenge, and compassion. The weekend of May 3, 2002, I will be participating in a very special and powerful event in the fight against breast cancer. It is called the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day.
I will walk 60 miles from Baltimore, Maryland to Washington, D.C. with more than 3,000 other people to raise money for non-profit breast health programs and medical research throughout the country. This challenge is unlike any other I have undertaken. I have pledged to raise a minimum of $1,900 before April 5, 2002. I will also be in training for the many months leading up to the event but if I can make a difference, it is so very worth it! This year over 182,000 women and 1,500 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. Of those numbers, 40,000 women and 400 men will die. Yet, the five-year survival rate for patients treated for early-stage breast cancer is 96%. That's why I'm walking, because I want to do something big, so that more people have the chance to be in that 96%. All my best, Kelli Mann Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Washington, D.C.
